We would be remiss if we skipped over the most popular and widely mentioned spot to rent a Cabin in the Woods – Broken Bow, OK (Beavers Bend State Park)


Carlton Landing

Just 3 hours away from North Dallas in Eufalia, Oklahoma and you’ll find a variety of Cabins and Cottages to rent for weekends and weeks.

This Master planned community on Lake Eufalia has a fully functioning Boat Club, Parks and Pools and a Working Farm. It’s more upscale than some places, but you can find a variety of different types of rentals that fit your family and your needs.

Take in the beauty of Hot Springs, Lake Hamilton, and Lake Ouachita

Head North to Arkansas and due East and you’ll reach the super quaint Hot Springs, with it’s old-world architecture and of course – Hot Springs in their famous bathhouses.

Nestled in a valley and close to Lake Hamilton and local river areas, the hiking is great as well as the amount of outdoor activities available, like a biking trail.

Lake Ouachita is also a popular destination to stay at – the water is clear at both lakes and they have a variety of Marinas where you can rent boats and lake toys for the day!

Lake Ouachita is beautiful and the edge is in Hot Springs (a popular road trip stop!), but going West out of Hot Springs towards Mt. Ida has better camping and parts of the lake (Mountain Harbor or Crystal Springs).

Floating the rivers are also fun (Ouachita and Buffalo are favorites) and you can enjoy lunch at a nearby picnic table.

Beaver Lake is in North West Arkansas is closer to Fayetteville and about 3 hours from Little Rock.

Most Arkansas lakes have rock bottoms so the water is pretty clear! If you are more into canoeing definitely check out the Buffalo River.

Eureka Springs is a great place to stay with lots of hiking, water canoes, caverns, fishing and a ton of great cabins!!

It’s really fantastic with huge pine trees and small town vibe.

Go check out the State Park or Camp Shiloh has kayaks you can rent and a swimming area off of Bob Sandlin Lake. It is only about 2 hours away (maybe hour and a half depending on your route)

Tyler State Park Texas

In addition to Tyler State Park, we also recommend Daingerfield State Park which is located at 455 Park Road 17, Daingerfield, TX 75638

Head to North East Texas where tall trees reach for the sky in the north­east corner of Texas. Explore life in the forest at Daingerfield State Park as you wander the trails, paddle Little Pine Lake, or relax at your campsite.

A 3-hour drive from Beavers Bend State Park in Broken Bow, Oklahoma.

There are some great RV spots (check if they offer partial or full hookups) and Campsites available just across the border over the Red River. 

Bee Mountain Ranch is situated on the Brazos River, Texas, and is located at 13499 County Road 1241, Cleburne, Texas 76033


Other great Camping Spots close to DFW

Weatherford/Fort Worth West KOA Journey

Just off I-20 West of Fort Worth, this KOA location has over 30 places to eat and shop within 1 mile of the park. It makes a great base to go ahead and explore Fort Worth and all the fun things there are to do there for a long weekend.

KOA is a national chain of campsites and usually offers nice perks, like a resort-style pool and places to eat. They have plenty of RV sites with patios and deluxe cabins with full bathrooms too – so a wide variety of options.

Lake Ray Roberts

Within the Ray Roberts Lake State Park, the Johnson Branch Unit campground has 166 campsites (104 with water and electric hookups) and is located next to a pretty cove of the lake.

The other option close to Lake Ray Roberts is the Isle du Bois Unit campground.

Hidden Cove Marina in Frisco/Lewisville

This one is literally on our doorstep, but feels a million miles away.

Lake Texoma

There are various campsites available at Lake Texoma, both on the Oklahoma and Texas’ side. In addition to those which are within Lake Texoma State Park, there other Campsite options close.


Get lost in the beautiful Arbuckle Mountains Oklahoma

The Arbuckle Mountains of south-central Oklahoma are a great spot for campsites, with close proximity to an outdoor paradise featuring a rolling landscape dotted with waterfalls, lakes and hiking trails. Explore three Arbuckle treasures – Turner Falls Park, Chickasaw National Recreation Area and 777 Zip.

Arbuckle Mountains and Turner Falls are two great places to stop off on a Road Trip to and from Oklahoma City to Dallas Fort Worth.

Camping in Texas

Across the State Link in Arkansas, if you are headed out towards Hot Springs, another great spot to Camp is Daisy State Park (103 E Park Rd, Kirby, AR 71950).

It’s a huge State Park in Pike County amongst the beautiful Ouachita Mountains, Lake Greeson, and the Little Missouri River.

You can also camp at Crater of Diamonds State Park and dig for diamonds too while you are there. We stopped on our way to Hot Springs last fall and had a blast!

If you venture North of Little Rock, you’ll find Greers Ferry Lake which also offers great fishing, water sports, boating and camping. It is known for the cleanest, clearest lakes in the nation
