Creative Art Studio in Plano!

The Art Experience was founded in 2000 and has been in business for 26 years teaching in various venues such as schools, recreation centers, community college, art galleries, and businesses.   We now have our own art studio located in Plano and are excited to offer classes in our very own space!

Summer Schedule by week:

Mixed Media: Create a large canvas artwork using collage, drip and splatter paint, spray paint, gesso, and textures.  Learn new painting techniques like layering, washes, and glazes.  Incorporate layer upon layer of different media to create a large work of art all your own.  Our mixed media summer camp will introduce you to a variety of mediums.  You can draw with pencil, ink, or pastels and incorporate it into your work.  You can collage with your favorite items like photos, clips of your original art, magazines, textured papers and even three dimensional objects.  You can then paint in both transparent and opaque layers to create the main subject matter of your work.

Junk Journals: Use all your creativity to create a unique Junk Journal sketchbook. Create a three dimensional sculpted cover. Embellish the interior of your book with paintings, collage, drawings and oodles of fun techniques to get the creative juices flowing. Junk journals are a student favorite!

Wizarding World of Art Experiences:  Art Experiences is my signature class where students get to try out a variety of mediums from 2D projects to 3D projects. We will draw, paint, do pastels, pen and ink, watercolor, acrylic and even get our hands dirty with mixed media and sculptures all based on Wizardry!

Drawing Skills:  Elevate your drawing skill with this in depth drawing class. Learn perspective, shading, gesture drawing, and life drawing. Learn how to create accuracy in your drawings and create beautiful works of art.

Fiber Arts:  Explore the world of textiles as you create batik fabric, vibrant pom pom art, unique weavings, fabric and fiber sculptures, and more. Students will discover texture, color, and creativity through hands-on projects—including basket weaving! This fun and engaging class brings together artistry and functionality, perfect for artists who want to develop new fiber art skills.

Faces and Figures: Have you ever wanted to be able to draw faces and people more accurately? Want to be able to do a portrait of someone? Want to move past stick figures? This class is for you. We will be creating the human form in both two and three dimensions, drawing people both still and in action, along with creating portraiture.

Painting Skills:  Learn painting techniques in both watercolor and acrylic.  Learn a bit of color theory and how to mix colors in different value and intensities.  Learn brush work and how to add realism to your paintings.   We will focus on creating works with bright fresh color and not overworking your paint and creating muddy colors.    We will learn some blending and atmospheric perspective techniques to create depth and realism.

Paper Mache:  In this fun and hands-on week, campers will create their own unique creatures or sculptures using paper clay and paper mache. Learn how to build sturdy armatures from wire, cardboard, bottles, wood, and other recycled materials. Explore the versatility of paper mache while unleashing your creativity in a supportive, imaginative environment!

Everything Paper: We will dive into the fascinating world of papermaking—creating paper from a slurry using a mould and deckle, exploring marbling techniques, and discovering the magic of printmaking. Students will combine their masterpieces into beautiful prints, cards, collages, and even a handmade book. An inspiring, hands-on art experience for creative kids who love to make and explore!  Paper making and Print making are always two of my most popular projects–now combined into one workshop!
