These Things to do in August will keep Summer with us, even when the School year starts!

As the Temperatures really hit their North Texan highs, we have tons of ideas for things to do inside and outside around Dallas, Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Allen and surrounding cities in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex.

You don’t want to miss the Live Music and Concerts this month in the area as we close out the Summer and get ready for September.

Every Monday

Free Live Online Art Class, hosted by Plano Arts & Events

Join them for a free live art class, suitable for all ages and skill levels. Classes are taught using watercolor paints and modified for colored pencils, markers and crayons. We’ll have a new class every Monday at noon. No registration – just go to their page every Monday at noon CST and click on the live video.

Clear the Shelters – Plano

The 6th Annual Clear the Shelters event returns this year, but it’ll look a little different.This year Clear the Shelters will run from Saturday, August 8 to Saturday, August 29. However, adoption fees will only be waived from Monday, August 24 to Saturday, August 29.You can view adoptable pets ahead of time on our Petfinder page. Call the Plano Animal Shelter at 972-769-4360 with questions.

Where: Plano Animal Shelter, 4028 W. Plano Parkway, Plano

When: August 24-29, 9am – 4pm daily

Cost: FREE – Adoption fees are waived during this period

Enjoy the beauty of the Butterflies at the Heard Museum, McKinney

Walk among free-flying native butterflies and other pollinators in their Native Texas Butterfly House & Garden. {Find Out More}

Grandscape Family Movie Night – Goonies

End August with a throwback for sure as our Grandscape Family Movie Night showcases a classic: The Goonies! Must reserve your spot ahead of the event.

Where: Grandscape, The Colony, 5752 Grandscape Blvd, The Colony, TX

When: August 25, 7.30pm – 9.30pm

Cost: Free to attend. This is a FREE event to attend, but you MUST reserve a spot on the ticket page in order to secure a spot. EACH SPOT HOLDS UP TO SIX (6) PEOPLE!

Last Summer DJ Series at Grandscape for the Summer

When: Wed Aug 26 7pm – 9pm

Cost: Free to attend

Watch “Clueless” at Summer Movie Series at Legacy Hall

“Ugh, as if!” – Cher Horowitz ?On Wednesday, August 26, Legacy Hall will be screening the cult classic Clueless on our 24-ft. LED screen in the Box Garden at 7:30 pm. 

?Share a Press Waffle Monte Cristo with your girlfriends or split Horu Sushi’s Hurrican Shrimp Roll for the screening. Don’t forget to save room for a Pepsi Float made with ice cream from Haute Sweet.PRO TIP: Frosé or any wine? from Bar Main goes perfect with this cult classic.

Rhea Lanas of Frisco/McKinney

Rhea Lana’s is hosting a HUGE Shopping Event! Get your kiddos (infant – high school) set for all things Back-to-School, Fall & Winter!

When: August 28, 4pm -10pm – September 3 ending at 2pm. Times vary per day.

Where: Allen Event Center, 200 E Stacy Rd, # 1350 Allen, TX 75002

Cost: It is a Shopping Event. Many time slots are free, for Veterans, Military, Teacher, Mom-to-be and half price days but for priority access tickets are available for purchase.
