NTX Giving Day in Plano

40 Charities to Support on NTX Giving Day!

We asked Plano Moms everywhere to nominate their favorite charities to support on September 14th for North Texas Giving Day!

What is NTX Giving Day?

One day a year, for every dollar you donate to Charity, sponsors amplify it with generous bonus funds throughout the community. Some qualify for matching gifts. Communities Foundation of Texas launched North Texas Giving Day in 2009. In 2016, the 18-hour event raised over $37 million for 2,500+ nonprofits.

A minimum donation of $25 to each organization is required for your gift to be eligible for bonus funds from the foundation.

For those who are close to your heart, if you are wanting to give this year, September 14th is the best day to do so.

Movers For Moms

Have you started doing some spring cleaning? If so, we have the perfect place for you to donate your goods. Two Men and A Truck has started an awesome donation drive to help women and families in local shelters. It’s called Movers for Moms. Come read more about this awesome organization.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK  is investing in Moms everywhere. They have women in key leadership roles across the country. Movers for Moms is a way they give back and appreciate the Moms everywhere, despite their current situation.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK  locations in Dallas (6 locations) will be collecting donations for Hope’s Door, a local women’s shelter in Plano. These are some of the items they will be collecting:

  • Everyday items that women use: shampoo/conditioner, lotions, makeup, feminine hygiene items, soaps, etc. These can be full or travel size. Anything that helps women that have nothing to their name.
  • Clothing: all sizes for women and children
  • Household items: These will be donated to Hope’s Door resell shop

Once you have your items to be donated, here’s what to do. All TWO MEN AND A TRUCK locations in the Dallas area (6 stores) are drop-off spots. Donations can be made until May 12th.  Once all the donations have been made, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK  will pick up the items and deliver them to the partnering shelters.

Last year over 2500 items were donated to Hope’s Door and they want this year to be even bigger.

2017 will mark the 10th year for the Movers for Moms® program and the fifth year it’s been a national program

With your help, it can be! What a great time to get some spring cleaning done and really help others in need in Plano. Your house will look better and you will feel good about helping others in need. Your donations to Hope’s Door will help change the lives of families affected by domestic violence all year long.

Thank you to TWO MEN AND A MOVING TRUCK for helping to make a difference!

This would be a great way to get your kids involved in some local charity and giving. If you are looking for other ways to get your kids involved, check out Easy Ways to Teach Kids About Charity.

Easy Ways to Teach Kids about Charity

It’s important to teach our children how to give to others. We want our children to grow up and be caring adults. Here are some easy ways to teach kids about charity and giving to others.

teach kids about charity

*Donate clothing and gently used toys: Do a nice spring clean and collect some gently used items that are no longer worn or no longer played with. Have your kids help you and then take them to a donation center.

*Volunteer: Check with the food pantry or local churches to see what volunteer opportunities might be available. Maybe there is something at a nursing home or homeless shelter where your older kids can help you do something.

*Clean Up: Gather some friends and help clean up around a park or area in Plano. This will teach them the act of helping and will make our town a cleaner place, a win-win!

*Be a Good Example: As parents, we can lead by example and donate money to offerings, cans, and other necessities. Talk to your kids about it and have them help you. Seeing you do it will make them more inclined to do it as adults.

*Angel Tree: During the holiday season, participate in the angel tree by buying gifts to a family in need. Have the kids help you pick out items and drop them off. This will make you feel so good and teaches kids that giving is better than receiving.

*Help Loved Ones or Friends in Need: Take a meal to a sick friend or help someone with an errand. Participate in a walk to support a good cause. Do this with your kids to help get them involved.

*Do a Random Act of Kindness: Create a list together of some fun things you can do with people around you. Maybe leave a nice note for the mailperson, bake and deliver cookies to a local fire station, or pay for the car behind you in the drive-through.
