Frequently Asked Questions
How many weeks does it take to learn to swim?
Depending on the age of the kids, it can vary. The first basic swimming skills like floating and moving in the water can be learned in a matter of weeks with regular practice and instruction! There are a sequence of moves, like reaching for a wall and pulling yourself up that are early milestones in learning how to swim.
How much do Swimming Lessons cost?
The cost of lessons does seem to rise as kids get older, as the techniques get more complicated. Infant pricing starts at $32 for 30 minutes and can vary up to around $40 depending on the school and teacher ratio.
Can siblings play in the water while one child is in swim lessons?
This is unusual — most swim schools keep their staff focused only on the kids in lessons.
Lifetime Plano is a solid option: it has a smaller pool with a shallow end far enough from the lesson area for siblings to play safely. Call ahead to confirm before you book.
What’s the difference between survival swim (ISR) and traditional swim lessons?
Survival swim programs like ISR Plano use one-on-one, short weekday sessions focused on self-rescue skills — floating, breathing, and swimming independently — for kids as young as 6 months. Traditional lessons at schools like Big Blue or Emler are typically group-based and build technique and confidence over a longer season.
Are there in-home swim teachers in Plano?
Yes — several local moms recommend in-home teachers who either come to your house or teach at their own pool, including Swimmers by Mimi, Paige’s Swim School, and Jennifer LeMay. Most teach outdoors, so availability is limited to warmer months.
With most of these options, you’ll find that these will be group lessons, so be sure to check the teacher/student ratios in advance.

Looking for In-Home Teachers for Swim Lessons?
The following are swim teachers that some of our Local Community Moms have used with their kids. These teachers either have their own pool, and you go to them or they come to you.
Because they teach outside, many of them only teach for the warmer months of the year, so remember that when planning you want your child to start to learn to swim.
Swimmers by Mimi has over 30 years of teaching in Plano, from Infants to adults, and offers adaptive programs in a heated saltwater pool at her home.
Paige’s Swim School – Paige teaches in Central Plano, in an indoor heated Scuba pool and comes very highly recommended with small group teaching.
Jennifer LeMay – Plano Mom, Shannon has personally used her for her own kids. She will come to your house if you have a pool and she highly recommends her.
Barb Rand Eder – Call: 662-231-1983
Ms. Erin’s Swim School (Frisco)
Swimming With Rosey (Richardson)
With many of these in-home teachers, you can add additional kids into the lesson, so if you just have one new swimmer you can share the cost with a friend, with prior agreement from the teacher of course!

Where can I get kids swim lessons where the siblings can play in the water at the same time (while waiting their turn)?
Hi Karen, in our experience this is very unusual as most swim schools have their staff dedicated to the kids who are in the actual lessons. However, Lifetime Plano might work. They do have a smaller pool and shallow end which is far enough away for kids to play. Give them a call and ask!
