How we make Quiche Lorraine
First of all, we need to tell you a secret. The French don’t eat quiches at breakfast!
For French people, quiche is more a lunch or a dinner dish. Anyway, something that is true for sure, is that quiches are one of the most favorite French dishes for Americans. And maybe you don’t know it yet, but it also something you can easily prepare at home with your children.
- Use a round mold lined with parchment paper.
- Place a puff pastry dough in the mold.
- And let your Petit Chef mix the topping: With a French whisk, mix the heavy whipping cream, eggs and bacon.
- Pour over the dough.
- Bake for 40 min. Et voilà!
The French whisk is a great tool to start cooking. Using it is one of the simplest and funniest thing to do. It is easy to hold and use, and there is no wrong way of whisking!

How we make Petits shortbreads from Brittany (Bretagne)
Petits shortbreads are small cookies with a good taste of butter and a hint of salt. This is the classic snack of all French children.
Mixing a cookie dough by hand is one of the first things a young child can do.
The goal is to mix all the ingredients together to obtain a dough. Spread it with a rolling pin. Then cut it with funny cookie cutters. It does not require any skill and the results are always yummy!
Children can directly touch the ingredients with their hands. Sensations are very amusing for them. And it helps to create a positive relationship with food.
Even better, you can decorate these shortbreads with colored icings.
How we make French Baguettes
Oh la la Baguettes! Bread in general and baguettes specially are THE dish that represents the best France abroad. And for good reasons, with a golden crust and a soft crumb, you can find them on every street corner in Paris.
You may have never thought about it, but anybody can make baguettes, even kids! Best part? It’s only 4 ingredients!
Your kids can do all the mixing process, as it’s really simple and funny.
Pour all the ingredients in a mixing bowl, mix until you obtain a dough. Dust your table, and start kneading the dough on the table. Even if it sounds intimidating, kneading is not rocket science! Kneading is a process in the making of bread dough.
Punch the dough: Press the heels of your hands into the dough, pushing forward.
Turn the dough slightly, fold it in half, and rock into it again with the heels of your hands.
The great thing with kneading bread dough with your child is when they see the result. They are amazed by the fact that they can do bread themselves.
How we make Crêpes
Of course crêpes!
Crêpes, aka the French pancake, is like a very thin pancake and can be sweet or savory. They can be garnished with many different toppings, your imagination is the only limit: fruits, jam, chocolate spread, peanut butter, or vegetables, cheese, meat… They are easily found in great restaurants in Plano area, however, you can make them easily at home and this is the perfect parent & child activity for a cold Sunday. Using a baking mix will help you save time in the preparation, so you can have more time to eat them. Adding milk, butter and eggs, your child can mix the batter, (with a beater, it is even easier) and can help you to cook them into the pan pouring the batter with a ladle.
To add more fun, try to make them flip!
