This doctor shows us how to disinfect groceries. PSA – it’s useful and scary too!
What is scary is how little experts know about it and this video alone seems to be the only one available to provide us with safe grocery shopping and handling tips.
Let’s not forget take out food options – many local restaurants are providing curbside pick up and delivery, so in this twilight zone of a global pandemic the video also explains safe takeout food practices.
What can we do?
First, we need to take advice given by the CDC about Covid19 and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Everyone is at risk and washing hands and sanitizing inside the home is crucial.
This video shows a doctor walking through the steps needed to sterilize groceries and take out food – is this for real? In this 15 minute video the doctor walks you through a sterile technique often used by medical professionals applying to food being brought into the home – whether it’s grocery or fast food takeout.
He walks us through:
- The process of bringing groceries into the home
- Preparing to bring groceries into the home
- How to clean and disinfect the groceries in your kitchen (before you put them away)
- The steps to take after you come home with take-out food.
This is a LOT and is painstaking in detail – we understand if this makes you feel overwhelmed. We do feel it’s worth watching though, as you never know if this alone helps prevent one more case of Corona Virus (Covid-19) in Collin County.
Since the filming of the video (and because information changes daily!) we want to point out that the USDA tell us “Consumers should not wash fruits and vegetables with detergent or soap,” according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
“These products are not approved or labeled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use on foods. You could ingest residues from soap or detergent absorbed on the produce.”
